At the start of Term 2 the students in 3/4 Kenny spent time reflecting on the meaning of ANZAC day and how we commemorate it. We learned that red poppies are put into wreaths with rosemary for remembrance and these are placed at the War Memorial or Cenotaph in honour of those people who died in wars.
This term we dived into learning how to write interesting and engaging narrative texts. We are learning how to hook our reader’s interest with a catchy beginning and then develop our characters using descriptive words and phrases.
We are also making a big effort to develop our growth mindset by thinking about problems, mistakes, and challenges as an opportunity to grow. We can train our brain to cope with challenges by changing how we talk to ourselves when we stretch it out of our comfort zone.
We are really looking forward to more catchups this term with our buddy class Kinder Clifton!
It feels like the time has gone by fast, but we’ve managed to squeeze a fair bit into the year so far in 3/4N. We’ve looked at persuasive and narrative texts in depth, explored shape and multiplicative thinking, categorised different living and non-living things and have started looking at the time before Europeans discovered Australia. It hasn’t all been hard work though. We have also discussed the ANZACs, and on excursion we investigated the Soldier’s Memorial Walk and Botanical Gardens. We’ve baked biscuits, built models, crafted cards and completed team challenges. Most of us love a “Fun Friday”, when up to date workers get to play strategy games like chess, Monopoly or UNO. Here are a few pictures:

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 14 MAY 2021
Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking! Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine. You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by: • Walking with them the whole way to school • If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop • If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way. Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 14 May 2021! For more information, visit www.walk.com.au |
World Hand Hygiene Day: coming into cold and flu season, hand hygiene is extremely important to stop the flu spread.
Effective Hand Hygiene is the single most effective action to reduce health care associated infections.
Hand hygiene is a general term referring to any action of hand cleansing. Hand hygiene includes:
- Applying an alcohol-based hand rub to the surface of hands (including liquids, gels and foams)
OR - Washing hands with the use of a water and soap or a soap solution, either non-antimicrobial or antimicrobial.
- Use an alcohol-based hand rub for all clinical situations where hands are visibly clean.
- Wash with soap and water when visibly dirty or contaminated.
How do we Hand Hygiene?
The WHO have developed posters on How to Hand Rub and How to Handwash.
