Principal's Report

Term 4 has begun with a flurry of activity. Inside and out of the classroom teachers are busy preparing reports and organising classes for 2020 while supporting students with their learning. I would like to thank and congratulate our wider community for their engagement with whole school events in Term 3, we really feel as though our community are feeling more comfortable to engage with AFPS and believe communication is improving.

The School Association supported the Book Fair in Term 3 which raised a substantial amount of money for our school! I’d like to thank Rachel for her tremendous organisation of this event and time spent at the stall. We also had successful events in Term 3 including Father’s Day Stall, Footy Colours Breakfast and ArtScare. Our community are certainly voting with their feet and numbers attending our events have been very encouraging.

You may have noticed that there has been some work completed around the school recently. This has included the installation of goal posts on the oval, signage put up to support visitors and traffic flow within the school, totem pole installation in the garden and animal proof fencing in the garden. There are also some additional projects in the pipeline that will hopefully commence shortly, depending on some outcomes of grant proposals we have put in.

We have begun to engage community groups in our area and this has culminated with a partnership including Chigwell Child and Family Centre + Vinnies (Claremont) and our school. To celebrate Children’s Week we have set up a stall at Vinnies outlining what our school and CFC can do to support our community.

Term 4 also sees our academic focus shift to Asia/Pacific, teachers will be planning class activities linking in with Asia/Pacific topics and their impact on Australian culture and society while still outlining links with the Australian Curriculum. Class teachers will also be planning parent events on this topic to share student work and engage families in student learning.

We now look forward to the second half of the term where we will begin to celebrate students learning and the wonderful achievements of our community in 2019.
